What Is The Retail Markup For Supplements (whey, Creatine, Etc)?

Written by admin on March 19, 2009

I'm doing some research into sports nutrition and i'm trying to figure out the costs associated with sports supplements.

Whenever I go the local nutrition stores or look online, I see very wide differences in prices for same items.

Does anyone here work at supplement industry and can tell me the typical wholesale price versus the retail price.

It's HUGE! Manufactures (MFG) typically have at least a 75% profit margin... then they sell to a distributor of some sorts who has about a 25% margin then the distributor sells to a retail store who has around 50% profit margin.

That is the simple side... there can be even more hands in the cookie jar... bottom line is these guys are making so much money that they have huge marketing budgets to manipulate buyers all day long!

I don't know exact figures, but if you check online retailers (bulknutrition and buildingbrawn would both be good options) you might be able to get some product comparison going on.
